No I haven't. I'm curious as to who that is?

Post 3 by Manwe (The Dark Lord) on Tuesday, 27-Sep-2005 5:45:17

he was a quire boy many years ago who sung that christmas song walking in the air. He still sings now, he's very much into classicle music. He also has his own show on www.classicfm.com

No and I am very glad of it.

I absolutely love A. Jones''s voice, think it's the most beautiful tenor on earth right now. I like his mature singing much better than his treble days.

Dear me how can you compare him to the educated emotive beauty of Pavarotti or Carreras AJ isn't fit to clean their shoes.

Post 7 by Cousin Cap (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 28-Sep-2005 14:14:57

Frankly, I like understanding the words to a song. Pavarati and his ilk have the unfortunate habit of mushing all their phrases together and, as you said, overemoting, so I can't take them seriously. Aled Jones, though, prefers a simple, nonbombastic style, and I appreciate that. His is the type of voice I think of as belonging to the minstrels and troubadours of Medieval times: clear, lovely, not ostentatious.

Noi they do not the true operatic style of Pavarotti who is after all native Italian cannot be compared to that of a sickeningly sweet Welsh warbler, who were it not for numerous appearences on religious programmes, would be forgotten unlike Pavarotti who can still sell out his gigs in a matter of hours..long live Pavarotti voce bello!!!

Post 9 by Cousin Cap (Zone BBS Addict) on Thursday, 29-Sep-2005 13:46:29

Ah, but Aled Jones doesn't attempt to match Pavarati in either style or genre, so I have no idea why one would even compare them as better or worse than one another.

Post 10 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Saturday, 01-Oct-2005 9:29:26

No because he realised that he would never achieve the superb beauty of Pavarotti or the spine tingling emotion of Carreras.Until an opera singer, can carry off a powerful aria such as Nessun Dorma, he has no right to call himself a tenor..

yes, but Bocelli is far superior...

Post 13 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Friday, 18-Aug-2006 17:54:59

Aled Jones, Aled Jones and more Aled Jones all the way for me please. Never missed any of his shows on Classic FM and I still listen to him now on Radio 2. You can understand the words when he sings, he doesn't go way, way, way over the top like Bocelli, Catherine Jenkins Etc Etc. He's just perfect. Have had a crush on him since 1986 when someone gave me a copy of The Snowman on cassette.

I love Aled Jones. his version of You Raise Me Up is amazing.

Post 15 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Saturday, 19-Aug-2006 12:43:40

Nice one Caitlin. I like you raise me up, stranger in Paradise, his cover version of John Rutter's Gaelic Blessing, Marble Halls, Count Your Blessings, O, the list just goes on and on and on, and I have the albums - Aled, Higher and New Horizons.

What in the name of Merlin is this doing in the rant board section?

Post 18 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Friday, 29-Aug-2008 8:55:53

I dunno Joanne, lmfao. Should be in the Rave section really. Aled's released Reason To Believe, his latest album in October last year and I so, so nearly did meet him. In fact, the occation still touches a raw nerve 3 years later. I posted it elsewhere on the Let's Talk board.

Post 19 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 29-Aug-2008 10:10:32

Yes, I remember seein it. For anyone who has my MSN, please feel free to sen me this person's version of you raise me UP. That happens to be my favorite song, although I have only heard josh groban's interpretation. Sounds like I'm missing some excellent music.

Post 20 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Saturday, 30-Aug-2008 10:46:07

Someone sent me a link to a YouTube video of this person singing, and ... Well, I know this is going to piss a lot of people off, but personally, I was not very impressed. the instrumentation and choir in the background was pretty, but there just wasn't enough vibrado for my liking. Thanks for the link, anyway.

Post 21 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Sunday, 31-Aug-2008 17:17:15

I do not know this jones fellow and I'm sort of glad I don't.
I'm sure he's a good singer and a fine citizen, but I simply do not care for that musical style.
Now then, what was the point of all this?

Post 22 by cat (Newborn Zoner) on Monday, 01-Sep-2008 5:50:25

just to have polite converstation about something, that's all

Post 23 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 01-Sep-2008 19:41:01

in the rand board?

Post 24 by Albanac (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Tuesday, 02-Sep-2008 10:13:33

Joanne? You rock, lmfao, my question also. Shouldn't it go in let's talk though? As the original post was a question, in order to get people to talk about him. Personally I'm not a fan of any of the singers listed here, but I'm neither ranting about that, nor raving about the stuff I do like. grin.

Cheers,
Simon

Yes that's what I meant...wrong board for this topic.
